I'm thinking about using a little giant or Mag for my return pump on a 125 gallon. What are your opinions between these two pump?

ive had experience with mags, they are very reliable...i have one i am using now that is 5 years old

Isn't the Little Giant an external pump? I use one for my 280g and imagine it would be too much flow for a 125g (not knowing the model number, that's just a guess)

The Mag pumps and the new Maxijet Utility Pumps are two good choices. The MJ Utility pump comes with a 3 year warranty, while the Mag only 1 year.

I have a little giant right now and I'm thinking of drilling my sump so that I can use it. The model number is 4-md-sc. Here is the spec sheet for it.

I'm going to have about 5 feet of head and my calculations are that my turn over rate will be about 6. I have two drains and each one is 1 inch. I plan on draining one drain at half to give it more time in the refugium. My sump is setup up as: skimmer->return<-refugium. I'd rather go with the little giant so that I don't have to spend more money on a different pump. What are your thoughts?

i ran a gen-x but same concept. i liked it the pump is on the outside so you dont have heat and electricity in the tank. only thing was that the gen-x was loud. i dont know much about the little giant but i do recommend putting a ball valve before and after the pump and use unions so if you need to do maintaince on the pump it makes it alittle easier but if you cant fit it you should at least do unions. Also if your just doing the plumbing make a manifold with all the outputs and ball valves and make sure you have extra just incase for future expansion.

Little Giant pumps are very good pumps/reliable. I had one in my FOWLR tank and never had issues with it. Of course this was many moons ago. Hopefully quality has remained in the brand.

He is talking about adding a few T connectors and adding a valve to each of the T's so you can control the flow just in case you want to use that pump to run other things like a media reactors, chiller, UV or other things.
