Resealing a Tank

I was wondering if it is reliable to reseal an Oceanic tank. Found one for a very good price but they did inform me that it leaked. They also HAVE already tried to reseal it but to no good result.

If I cut all the silicon out and reseal it, would that be a great deal? Are the glass panes glued before they are siliconed on the Oceanics?

I wouldn't want to cut the silicone out and have all four panes fall apart

Contact bulldogger1. David has sealed a few, and would probably have the information you seek.

I Just finished COMPLETELY resealing a 120 gal Ocean view tank. You can reseal them with a bit of work, but ALL the old silicone needs to be removed. Single edged razor blades, Scotchbrite pads and Rubbing alcohol will give you excellent results. I HIGHLY recommend a respirator as the fumes from the alcohol and the Silicone sealant Will tear up your throat and congest your lungs. Do the stripping and sealing outdoors. allow it to set for a MINIMUM of 48 hours before putting in water. If you make sure the glass seams are clean then the tank will reseal perfectly.
