Remote light ballast tripping GFCI?

I just got GFCI adapters for all my aquariums. On my nano cube (which I intend to use as a QT), whenever I turn on the lights, which are controlled by a remote ballast, the lights flash on for a second and then the GFCI trips and shuts off everything on the power strip.

Ideas about a likely culprit? The lights work fine when plugged directly into the wall (bypassing the GFCI). Trying to figure out if I need to replace the entire ballast or if there's something smaller I should be looking for?

Thanks!

Can you clarify what you mean by GFCI adapters. Did you change existing outlets with GFCI outlets or did you by the "plug in" type of GFCI adaptor.

Have you tried plugging your nano cube into another GFCI adapter to see if it trips that one?

Have you tried plugging the light(s) alone into the GFCI outlet? You could have too much load on it.

Is this a DIY ballast, or a commercially built model?

We did not change the outlets, it is a plug-in type adapter. I have not tried the cube on another outlet. But there are other items plugged into the power strip that's plugged into the adapter--the nano cube pump and the pump and light for a 5-gallon aquarium. They all function fine with the GFCI.

This is the remote ballast that is included with the Nano Cube 12 DX. I can try plugging in the lights separately, but I don't think that's the problem--I have an identical adapter on my 29-gallon display and it's connected to a power strip that's running two powerheads, my skimmer and a HOB filter.
