Reidi fry

I know several people on the board have successfully raised erectus fry but has anyone had any luck with reidi or kuda? Any helpful advise would be appreciated! :D

Reidi and Kuda fry are similar. They don't hitch right away at birth, are smaller then erectus fry and can get stuck on the surface. I tried raising Kuda babies once. I didn't have them in the proper tank. They all died right away except for one. I lost it at 6 months. I had to feed it rotifers for about a week until it was big enough to eat baby brine shrimp.

Send Heatguru a PM. He has been pretty successful with Reidi fry in the past. He also used to culture rotifers.

As I am sure you know erectus fry are a lot easier to raise then reidi or kuda. So don't get discouraged.

We have raised a ton of kuda. Currently have several hundred at seller age. We have found they do best with the first 3 to 5 days on rotifers and then begin introducing artemia (BBS). We don't use kreisel setups, just plain rectangular tanks. Mostly 29 gals. Biggest thing is quality foods and keep the tanks really clean.

Reidi fry cannot be allowed to get to the surface. You can keep them from the surface 2 different ways. Both require live green water.

The first way uses heavy concentration of green water. The idea is the algea rotifer enriched water is so thick the fry stay there. Also the top half of the tank sides are covered and light is set to go in the bottom half.

The second requires a modified plastic fish bowl. An airline is placed in the rounded side The airline creates a water circulation that pushes the fry away from the top with calm water in the center. I have several of these modified tanks. PM me if you would like to buy one.

The fry stay in the green water for the first 10 days. At that point you can start them on newly hatched brine preferably enriched.

Respectfully, I have to disagree.

When we were working with reidi, we treated them the same as the kuda. We used basic rectangular tanks, 29's, no greenwater, and we used a brine net to move them from the parent tank to the fry system. No effort was made to keep them off the surface. We did have circulation, but it was not designed to prevent them from going to the surface.

I do agree that the greenwater setup has worked for some. But I have seen it used for many species including benthic species.
