Regal Tang Question

I just purchased a small Regal Tang yesterday and am slightly concerned because he is spending all of his time in the top corner of my tank. Is it normal for these tangs to hover near the surface during nighttime?

I have not had any experiences with Regals, but my Scopas did the same thing. He just hung out in the top corner of my tank when I first got him. I imagine he is just getting used to the tank. Give him a while and I'm sure he'll be fine.

Brad, my regal is doing the same thing. I couldn't put him in my display tank because he was being bullied in there so I set up a temporary tank. He just hangs out in one spot. He has a healthy appetite though.

Cool, thanks guys, I'll give it some more time. Hopefully will do well when I feed in a little while. Jody, glad to hear yours is doing well, I glanced at him in his bag and was blown away at how blue he was.

I just caught my regal nipping at two of my Wellsophilia brain corals. Bad fishie. Just hate that . Took out the brains till I catch the fish.

I just got my regal 2 days ago. It immediately went behind some rocks and hid all day. During the daily feeding I could see him grab and food that came directly by where he was hiding. This morning when I came home from work (I'm on night shift this week) it took a few minutes to find him with my blue UV flashlight, but he had wedged himself between 2 rocks under my anemone and was laying on his side. I could see his gills moving, but I thought for sure he was dead. When I woke up he was swimming around the tank with my other 2 tangs, but the second I approached the tank, he swam off and hid. I read that this may be normal behavior, but I would almost rather see him swimming in the corner near the surface.

Yeah, mine warmed up to the tank in about 4-5 days. He's still a little spooked when I walk up too quickly, but for the most part he zooms around the tank like the rest. He still does the 'play dead' move like you're describing above at times.

My blue hippo did that too...especially at night. Then he found a place to lay on his side at night wedged between 2 rocks and he stopped. So, sounds normal to me.

lol my tang lays on some rocks too when it's bed time... and hides when i walk up but always moving around when it's feeding time
