regal angel

I personally wouldnt do any angel dwarf or not in a reef tank. I learned my lesson the hard way but who knows.
 
Yea the kind in a non-reef tank. But thats jmho. But you never can tell with any fish I have seen coral beauties that never nipped and I have a tang that wont leave my kenya trees alone but not to the point of killing them.
 
Now i am thinking about Pygoplites diacanthus . thanks for the link the author says good things about Pygoplites diacanthus(regal angel), just an expensive fish and a bad shipper. I will look up the other angel to see what it looks like and i wonder how it ships? Casey
 
I was planning to ship this fish so i get it at the same time as other fish however marine depot live does not offer an arrive alive offer on this fish. What would be the best way of obtaining this species (should i order it and take a risk or do you know of a better place to go). Casey
 
i checked live aquaria they have 1 kind only from coral sea (not as bright in color). Guess i should wait or sign up on the email lists for a red sea specimen. I will check on ordering at lfs also. thanks matt for all your help my new fish list is :

Regal Angel (Red Sea) - Pygoplites diacanthus

Cleaner Shrimp - Lysmata amboinensis

Foxface Rabbitfish - Lo vulpinus

Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse - Paracheilinus carpenteri

Copperband Butterfly - Chelmon rostratus (i have no lps, but will this eat clams)


I currently have : 1 green chromis, 1 gsm
 
the copper band has been known to be a clam nipper. They are also very difficult to acclimate, seems like they get very stressed durring shipping etc. If you get past an extended aclimation period ( a couple month) they do well.

thanks, i may try a copperband before i put the other fish so i can feel free to catch it if it eats coral or clams. I really need to get rid of some aptasia, Casey
 
LiveAquaria has a Regal Angel from teh Red Sea in their Divers Den. It ain't cheap, but they do have a garuntee. I've bought a lot of corals and fish from them, and have only had problems with ricordias. I've gotten a Potters Angel and a trio of Catalina Gobys, among others, and they all arrived fine.

Please please please take care of this angel. It's estimated that 95% of them die, they don't ship well and many won't eat. You got it from the best source possible though in my opinion. Mine is over a year with me now.

wow that is a thread. So i plan to get a clam or mussels for at first? Also what was is the best thing for inducing appitite. I read Bob Fenners advice if not eating then water change then appitite stimulants. Did your angel eat your zoos ? guess i will put them in another tank at first. With acclimation i planned on dripping in a clean 5 gal bucket how long is recommended for this fish i normally do about 40 min about 1 drop per second or a little more. any tips ? Casey
 
just got here the fed ex guy was carring the box vertical, and he slopped it down flat to hand it to me, i said "live fish", he said "yup have a good day" had no idea i meant be careful there are live fish lol. anyway all is alive for now the bag the angel is in stinks though, they are dripping now.

How long should i drip this angel i was thinking about 1 or 2 hrs would be fine as i have noticed sometimes the water temp plummets when i acclimate longer than that. Casey
 
Damn delivery guys... never gentle.

Oh yes, at least an hour after that ordeal. Also make sue that lighting is dim, as just openning the box can shock the fish badly. I always aclimate with teh bags floating IN my tank, so the temp stays constant, removing the bag to pour off excess water midway through the acclimation (then replaceing the bag in the tank, of course...)
