Refugium - white frothy foam ?

...my goal is to keep my hands out of the refugium, however, I have a white foam covering about half of the surface of the refugium. It is blocking the light from hitting the bottom. Should I scoop it out?...or is it a phase and I should just let it do it's thing?...all inhabitants (soft corals and fish) appear happy and healthy...any advice ?

It sounds like protein, more flow or surface skimming, if all else fails you can toss a paper towel on top of the water and it'll get some of it out. A water change from the refugium might work as well.

Excess protein is also my thought... Cut back on feeding or change food type... Record your parameters before and after you feed and check for any change... You can't change what you don't track and measure...

I overfeed a high protein food so I must turn off my skimmer or it foams up and fills the skimmer section with foam.

Hmmm...I don't feed that much and only have 4 small fish in a 105...my skimmer never skims more than 1/8 of an inch of skimmate. Maybe my skimmer isn't dialed in right?

Just scoop it off. It won't do any harm. If you can, post a picture.

I just scooped it out. the Chaeto underneath looks happier, it was smothered by the foam...light is hitting the bottom again. Looked like a dead zone underneath it.
