refugium or skimmer?

Ok so i got my sump ready to go, my tank almost ready to go. I just have 1 question.

The guy at the local store told me that a skimmer is not require if i have a refugium, i would like a second opinion about this.

I dont have space for both on my sump so thats why i was wondering.

What does your sump consist of? Could you turn your sump into a refugium and then add a skimmer? That will be 2 items ('fuge and skimmer) instead of 3 (sump, 'fuge, skimmer).

What size is your tank and what do you plan to keep in it?? I would suggest a sump/skimmer at the minimum, you don't really need a refugium but it all depends...... Let's get a bit more info on your plans.

i have a 100 gallong tank and it will be FOWLR, maybe more stuff but not in the near future.

I'd definitely have a skimmer to start, as it will remove some of the organics if you have a cycle.

If you HAVE to choose one I'd run a skimmer. It will remove organic waste. The refugium will remove nitrates but you can remove them through water changes.

cool, on my sump i got enough space for either a skimmer or a fuge, so ill start with skimmer then.
