Refugium light to grow frags???

My wife is tired of all my little frag plugs scattered across my DT. I have some on a home made frag rack (made from an old mag float) and others scattered across my sandbed. She thinks they add clutter and make the tank ugly, while I think that they add diversity to the tank [smilie=lol.gif] ! But since I know that the secret to her putting up with my saltwater and zoa addiction, I need to make her happy.

I want to make a frag rack in the refugium area in my sump. What is a good quality light to use for it??? Preferably LED....as I don't want to add anymore heat to my tank.

Also, I am thinking that the frag rack will be no more that 3-4" below the water line so that my chaeto can grow beneath it.

I currently have a plant grow light from home depot. I have read where many people advise against those, but it grows my chaeto like crazy, so I am happy. I figure that it could grow my zoas as well....but would probably brown them out.

Any recommendations???

Thanks in advance!

I used egg crate from the hardware store and an old cleaner magnet and some aquarium grade silicon....let it dry for 24 hrs and your good to go with your new frag rack.

Here is a link to another aquarium forum....mine is much bigger than this but you get the idea.

I am good on making the actual rack.......just wanting to know which kind of light to use.

Sorry for the confusion.

Anybody have any recomendations on a good light to use?

I would find a nice small 10k Led light setup. That would do the trick. In my mind I would have the frags somewhere else in the aquarium besides where your chaeto is. A new custom sump. I think that is the way I'm going to build my new sump.

LED bar from reefledlights, hanging from the inside of the stand. 12 LEDS on a 24" bar is what I'm doing, so depending on your size...

You can get a led strip with 50/50 whites and blues that are 10,000K for the frags, but is till think you need some sort of 6500K lighting for your macro. I don't think your growth rate on the macro will be as good under the 10,000K's perhaps run both but at different times on different timers? I agree that a separate chamber for the frags would be ideal, depends on what type of sump you have.
