Reef Ready Tanks

cheaper to make one yourself. the next meeting marc is going to talk about acrylic

Mark - There are 2 sets of diamond tipped hole saws for club members to borrow so you can drill a tank yourself...

(And I've got 1 of the sets over here in Rowlett... I'd be happy to help you drill one... Standard disclaimer - I'll do my best to make it successful, but if the tank cracks all I or the club owe you is an apology... )

Thanks Brain,I will keep that in mind. If I went that away do you know where or how to make an overflow for it?

Yes... For the overflow, if you've got the tools for it (Which I don't) it's pretty easy, just 2 pieces of acrylic glued together at a 90 degree angle with teeth cut in the top...

If you'd rather have someone else do it, Marc makes very nice ones at a reasonable price...

Here's a picture of the one he made for my display anemone tank project:

Almost forgot, if you'd rather just get one made complete, talk to your favorite LFS... OceanView was happy to make a custom drilled 55 gallon for me a few years back... You will pay more than for a regular tank, but it wasn't TOO bad... It was just over $200 for a custom drilled, with internal overflow 55 gallon for my refuguim project...

Oceanic has a 29G biocube. It's a nice product. And I would highly recommend not making your own tank until you have had a bunch of acrylic experience.

The tank in the picture is a 20 gallon long (30" x 12" x 12")... I've personally found this layout a very nice size for multiple purposes (I've got a 20 long as my display anemone tank, and two drilled 20 longs connected end to end as my new sump.)

20 longs? That's a standard size, any LFS has 'em... I got mine at either PetCo or PetsMart (As, unfortunately, those two are the closest to me...)

Should be around $40... Now, that's UN-drilled, I had to make them reef ready/drilled, but.....

As with the vast majority of tanks out there, they're drillable on the SIDE panels, but NOT the bottom panel... (The bottom panels of most tanks are tempered, and you absolutely can not drill tempered glass.)
