reef brite leds

Has anyone seen these? what did you think about them? Are you runnng them? Any good ....ok...hated them. Comments........can you use these for more then just moon lights and actinic supplements. I know there not cheap price wise. Im still deciding on a lighting system. T5's and maybe one reef brite or a few or maybe all reef brites. I was considering maxspect leds but not to sure on them. Bluemoon aquatics.... seems like all the rest 1watt leds with no way to set color how you want. Is there something else thats not redicolous? Commments ...suggestions welcome

Midcities carries both maxspect and reefbrite. Per dien the maxpspect put out alot of light if you go with the ones with combo big LEDs and small LEDs.

I get my all blue reefbrites next week.

If you go to midcities make sure you ask them to turn on all the LEDs as the usually only have the smaller LEDs on big big difference when big LEDs are on

I had read that the big 30watt leds on the maxspect look crummy when turned on so is that why you went with reef brite. Are you going to use the reef brite with your T5's? Hope to see a pic of what it looks like when you get them if you dont mind. Does mid-cities have the reef brites in stock or did you have to order them through them?

I went with reefbrites to supplement my t5 fixture. They have both maxspect and reefbrites for demo and stock.

I liked the look of maxspects.

I ran a gb on reefbrites through Reefpets that just closed. Once they come in you are more than welcome to cone by and look at them running as with most LEDs you really cant get a good picture but I will try

My next tank I am going to do diy LEDs built around my powermodule fixture

midcities will price match any online retailer. so whatever premium aquatics carries them at they will match them

Thats good to know thanks. I ended up ordering four last night and two are supposed to be here Thursday or Friday > One blue, one white and two 50/50's. I know really expensive and could have got the maxspect, but i think this will fit alot better into my hood the way i want them. Thank god me an my wife have seperate bank accounts....shsssh [smilie=clapping.gif]

BTW I just ordered two 50/50 48" strips and it will be my ONLY source of light (ran at 100% power of course). I am supplementing with two 5w UV LED lights to hopefully get back some useful UV radiation.

Currently I am running 4 ATI bulbs (3 Blue plus and 1 Special) and I can keep ANYTHING (have tons of SPS) and they have GREAT colors. We shall see what these LED's can do.

I am swapping my two uvl super actinic bulbs with kz superblue and a icecap deepwater and adding 2 blue reef brite fixtures for actinic supplementation. In my opinion you will need at least a couple t5's.

Well right now my t5 fixture has two individual reflectors. So each "Individual" reflector actually goes around two bulbs (not the most efficient). Also, their 6 months old.

With that said, I saw some par testing browsing the web and these actually had more than double the par of a blue plus (which is the bulb I'm running), so I'm hoping I'll be fine.

The problem I'm seeing with people running LEDs is that they try to match the output (watts) to another type of light (usually MH), and then complain that their corals are either turning white or not growing so well (because of photoinhibition). Also most all led guys run their LEDs at 60% power ... Which if you look at it you could use half the LEDs and run them at full power.

I think people are finally going to start realizing that you need A LOT less LEDs than what they have been putting in their tanks this whole time (I.e. Wasting money) because LEDs are SUPER efficient (they have a dedicated output wavelength (I've heard a 400w MH only puts out 150w of visible light (ie the rest is radiation), they have very focused optics, the light doesn't need to bounce around 180 degrees off a reflector (which I don't care how "efficient" they say their reflectors are their never going to be more efficient than a foward firing light in the first place), and most importantly (which a lot of people don't think of) is that they are much harder to get dirty than a reflector is (because their surface area is less) which means that they have higher efficiency longer with 99% of reefers not cleaning their lights weekly.

Are you going to use a different power supply than it comes with? The ones they come with now are not adjustable. Supposed to be coming out with ones that are controllable in the future they said. I think they run at 1.25 watts per 3watt led currently.

what 5w uv led lights are you going to use?

I have a custom rimless 90 gallon. 48x24x17 (from top of actual water line to top of sand there's 15" of water).

Yes I will be using the standard supply and run them 100%. I don't see the point of not using them to their full potential if I'm going to start dimming them! (and that's why I am only running two, instead of three or four dimmed).

The LEDs are regular and sadlY their only 400nm so not deep enough into the UV spectrum but we will see. It has 90 LEDs per side and I'm using two so I'll be going 10 watts (180 LEDs) and will keep them on for 12 hours (while I'll keep the main reef brite LEDs at 7 hours to start off)

How do you run them at 100%, do you have to open up the supply and alter it someway? So your going to run them at 3 watts then right.

Oh no no sorry I meant at the max that they run within the limits (I thought they ran at 2w actually but 1.5w is fine also)

So yeah I meant like running them simply connected to the wall and that's it no dimmer in between taking down the voltage (I think max voltage is 24v). I actually wouldn't run them at 3w even if I could unless I had a VERY deep tank since 3w from a single tiny light spot would create a HUGE hotspot that would easily bleach a coral.

UV is usually is what people have trouble running led fixtures it is more of the red spectrum. diyleds and couple other led companies recommend couple t5's to get the red spectrum to combine with the led white and blue

I believe they all are run at max power now with no adjustment any longer, so ya 100% of whatever they allowing them to run 2watt or 1.5 i forgot what it was. Should have mine hopefully today

I would run a Fiji purple and maybe uvl actinic white. Try just the LEDs if you start to see your sps color brown out then I would add t5's to get the full daylight spectrum.
