Redtail Tamarin Wrasse's - questions

Picked up 2 of these today. Before purchasing I read up on an in-store book that mentioned these as great reef fish, no real negatives mentioned other than "difficult" care.

Couldn't find them after a few hours of releasing them in the tank, so decided to look further into their habits (i.e. if they burrow, etc) and noticed that saltwaterfish.com said they were not compatible with shrimp. sucks since I have tons of peppermints. I then did some more searching on various sites and didn't see anything else mentioning this same warning.

so, any experiences with these and compatibility with shrimp?

still never found them rest of the day... hopefully they come out tomorrow.

This may make you feel better, but I had a Xmas wrasse who received that same warning...I had no problems.

ONce mine got to eat (ate everything), it would be a model citizen. I would believe that your shrimps are ok.

However, www.marinedepotlive.com says they could pick at clams? My wrasse never did.

I had one years ago that did good. It didn't bother my shrimp, Cleaner and Fire. It would burry itself within 5 minutes after the lights went out. each night.

how often did you all see yours out roaming?

As I mentioned above I didn't see mine more than the first hour. Given that my lights were off and they were probably stressed, think they buried themselves? Hopefully I see them after work today.

It swam out in and out of the rock all day long. When I woul approach the tank it would swim back and forth along the front.

Came home and found one swimming around. Ate when I added food.

About 15 minutes later I walked up to the tank and it immediately burrowed into the sand. I bet that is where the 2nd is as well.

Glad to see at least one is fine :)

Cliff. Was a pleasure meeting you. The Dart Frog Vivarium was very impressive as well as the whole system. The Red Tail Wrasse pair is very cool. I don't think wrasses are usually shy fish but I may be wrong having never kept any except one Wild caught Rainbow I caught in the Florida Keys. He was very active and all over the tank. These guys will probably venture out more into open water when they get use to your reef.

I can't understand why you have so much more coralline growth than I do, as our tanks are about the same age. Maybe I need to up my Calcium.
