Red spots on sand against glass

There are little red oblong spots that were appearing in the sandbed between the sand and the glass. They're slowly getting larger. They're semi-clear and near the top. Is this something I need to worry about?

Could you be referring to flatworms? http://www.melevsreef.com/flatworms.html

No definitely not flatworms. Here's a picture. Green star polyps in the background for reference. They started out tiny and slowly got larger. It only extends 1/2-3/4 inch in to the sand bed and is only on the front glass - not on the sides. The tank is not near a light source, but it's one open room away from a glass door (we keep the blinds closed).

They started small and keep getting larger. Just a note but this tank was moved and all the sand mixed up in the move about a month ago. None of this stuff is anywhere else in the tank, on the top of the sand, rocks, or anything.

It is a form of algae. Some will take the time to scrape it away with a spatula or plastic knife. The trick is not trapping grains of sand between the scraper and the glass.
