Red Slime Algae Issue

I have a 12 Gallon Nano, that was established when I bought it a while back.

I did a stupid thing, and thus killed everything in the tank. I cleaned everything. I socked the live rock in boiling water for at least 10 mins each piece, I removed the sand, and dumped it. I then cleaned the tank from top to bottom, with the hottest water, know to man :)

I've started with new sand, and put the rock back in and added a few pieces of new rock, and a damsel.

Suddenly all my rock is crusted over with Red Slime Algae. I can't get it all. Is there a way to remove it? On another tank I had started, it only appeared on the sand, and I could remove it with ease.

But I'm having trouble removing it from the rock. Is there an Additive (last choice) or some critter I can use to remove it?

Please let me know.

Thanks,

P2kmon.

Why would you think the rock you cooked in boiling water would be okay to use again? You killed all the life out of it, and odds are anything dead within the rock will decay and add to the cyano issue.

If it was me, and I'd boiled the rock in scalding water, I'd then put it in a barrel of saltwater with a heater and powerheads to get circulation through it. I'd do a water change once a week for three weeks, and then perhaps use it. I'm not sure what you'll accompish with the current situation, barring replacing the rock with new live rock. Sorry to be negative.

When I had the issue I was told to boil the rock and I should be able to use the rock again. (Also rcvd the same from a lfs).

Ok, I'll see about taking out the rock and boiling and then saltwater it for a few weeks.

Problem is limited space, but I'll figure it out.

Thanks,

I think you've confused "cooking" the rock with "boiling" the rock.
Cooking LR does not involve hot water.
Do a search here for instructions on the proper way to "cook" live rock.
I know of no normal situation where you would want to boil your rock.
