Red Bugs at Fish Gallery

Just wanted to let everyone know that I found red bugs one a piece of acro I bought from Fish Gallery. I was inspecting the corals thoroughly before putting them in my tank, and one of the two pieces I bought had red bugs on it. I checked the other piece extensively 5 times and could not find a single bug, that piece came from the opposite end of the tank. I found red bugs on another piece at the store that was on the same shelf as the piece I bought "all frags for $55" shelf.

Just wanted to give a warning. Their store is normally spotless, but occassionally things come in during shipment. This thread is in no way intended to bash the store, it is simply to allow everyone to know the information and to be careful.

Thank you for the information!

BTW, have you called the store? See if they will replace your coral, or at least make an offer of some sort?

It's always nice to have a follow-up :D

I took that coral right back up there and they took it back without a problem. They told me I could find a replacement, so I found a coral I liked and checked it out for a couple of minutes. I couldnt find any bugs on it, so I brought it home. When I was inspecting it at home before putting it in, I saw it had bugs on it as well, so it is floating in the back and will go back tomorrow morning.

I agree with you, that is the best procedure. I am planning on getting some interceptor for that reason, but I have not done so yet. At the moment I just check every piece very thoroughly under an indacescent light out of water, that seems to be the easiest light to spot things under. I have caught red bugs twice and acro-eating flatworms before introducing them to my tank. I also once a week pull a random piece out of my tank and subject it to the same treatment. While this is not exactly the best for the coral, I believe an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I got a green ORA stag a couple of months ago from the FG and it had red bugs.

But I'm taking my dogs to the Vet next week and will be picking up some Interceptor at the same time. :D

I ended up getting some interceptor from a pharmacist friend of mine, but then I realized that I had some from the last time we took our greyhound in. I'm sure the greyhound would understand if I used his flea/tick medicine on the tank.

Bill, how's the birdsnest?

Chris
