will they die off if all the acro sps is taken out of the tank?
like a dummy i put a new sps coral in my tank with out QTing it first. it was only in my tank for 24hr before i noticed the bugs and i immediately took the coral out. you think that it is all in my system now? i know they are hard to get off the sps so i hope they did not jump off in 24 hr
thanks

Have you actually seen them on other colonies/frags or just the new one? If you have relocated the infected frag to your QT I would watch your present colonies before treating as the interceptor will kill off most if not all of your pod population, shrimps, crabs, etc.--crustaceans in general. Honestly, I would think your tank is infected at this point too, but there's no reason to do the treatment until that's confirmed.

I treated my tank with interceptor and it did kill the bugs but I only had one emerald crab survive and my pod population took months to recover. If you can avoid I would. If you do have red bugs refer to the sticky about the interceptor treatment. It's really a very easy treatment, it just packs a punch. Another option for you is to remove all your sps and put them in a hospital tank with appropriate water flow and light and treat them separately so the display is not exposed to the interceptor. Good luck.

They're really not a big deal, some people get really spooked by the idea of getting red bugs when they purchase frags, so I frequently treat my whole tank with interceptor to get rid of them. I just make sure I don't keep anything as previously mentioned, like crabs, shrimps, etc. Copepods are affected but they come back in a few days.

Not that I don't agree with you about how bad they are, since interceptor does not discriminate between pests and other inhabitants like shrimp, amphipods, copepods, and crabs. If you see your copepods return, why are the red bugs not going to come back in the same way? They are just another pod.
I have treated my tank 4 times, a few times exactly as they prescribe. The last time I more than doubled the amount, thinking that would do it. And as usual the copepods came back and six months to a year down the road as always the red bugs come back.
I have come to the point now where if they get really bad, I knock them back down with another treatment.
If I take frags out I put a good dosage in the water the frags are in, I believe that may kill them off the frags.

I put the interceptor treatment directly into the main display and I start seeing the stringy red bugs dying within a few minutes, my flow to the fuge is about 25% and the return pump is very slow, so I imagine that by the time the fuge gets fully cycled with the treatment, I'm already done with a large water change and run heavy carbon to weaken the treatment, I may have exaggerated on the few days part, but the pods definitely come back quickly for me. That's after I do 3-4 weekly treatments.

thanks guys. i think i will treat my main tank tonight. is one treatment good or should i just do one tonight and one more a week later?
thanks

if you're not going to follow up with 3-4 treatments, don't waste your time, they are going to come back. There's a really good article on Marc's site how to do it properly, i'm just too lazy to look up the link, good luck.

i have read so many diffrent ways to treat it. some say one treatment worked. some say treat it 3 times every 24hrs. and others say 3-4 times every week. and finaly others say the heck with it and dont even bother treating it and get a dragon pipe fish for a little under $30.
thanks for all your help guys.
i just treated the tank and got most all the crabs out and shrimp except my poor blood shrimp. i hope the guy makes it through the night.

okay i put a 1/4 pill of the large dog in my 75g with 100-150 pounds of LR and 15-20g sump/fuge. thinking there is a total of 75g of actual water.at 10:30pm i put it in.

but like a dummy i forgot to do the checklist and forgot to turn off the UV light. so i had to break the rule and i put another 1/4 pill in this morning at 8am about 9 1/2 hours later and unpluged the UV light this time. i did not do a water change when i added the second dose.
before i put the second dose in i looked an saw my fire/blood shrimp was alive and a few pod were still alive and running around on the rocks.
so should i do a 3rd dose in a week? or is the two back to back good
thanks for all your help guys and sorry about all the???? i am new to sps
