Red Algae Help!!!

I have a 75 gallon tank with a yellow tang, psudochromis, green chromis, starfish, shrimp, crabs, and snails. I noticed red spots growing on my sand. I also have bubble algae and purple algae on the rocks. The bubble algae came on the rocks but is now spreading. What am I doing wrong? Is the red algae harmful? What should I do to get rid of the red algae and bubble algae? Thanks for any help!

do you have any test kits at home
try to get your water tested and give results
for now cut your light period down a few hours
take pictures of the algea (not the bubble )in case its dinos
cut your feeding way down
add clean up crew

what do you have for a clean up crew.... you can't have too many snails and crabs... I have over 200 snails and 200 crabs in my 150.... stays very clean!

I have about 25 turbo snails, 20 blue legged hermit crabs, 20 red legged hermit crabs, 2 cleaner clams, 3 sand- sifter starfish, 3 emerald crabs, and 1 coral- banded shrimp. The last time that I took my water to get tested they said all of my levels looked right and that was about a week ago. Also, I noticed that this morning there was less red algae than last night. Do the cleaners eat red algae?

Red algae sounds like red slime. You can siphon that out but will appear again in a few days or you can get yourself red slime remover. Check with your LFS for the products. And bubble algae....your emerald crab should be eating those because that's what they do best. As for purple algae, this may be a coralline algae which is not a problem but is a sign of a healthy tank.

Can you please post pic's of the issue, it makes it easier to diagnose what you have. I would suggest not adding chemical's to your tank, at least until you have correctly identified what you have and then only as a last resort. Also post your parameters for so we can see if any are problematic, saying they are ok does not really tell us much. :)

Cheers,

yes, the first step is to know what is going on. there is no prob. you cant make wears by running around thinking you know without conferming what is going on.
