i have read somewhere that people put some type of material (bought at home depot i think) either between their tank and stand or under their sump and the floor
i starting a new tank sunday night and would appricate any help

It's the pink insulation foam board. Put it directly under the tank (And directly under the sump) so that it can absorb any abnormalities in the stand to relieve any potential pressure points. It also allows the tank to do a SMALL amount of self leveling.

It's usually in the lumber area, bright pink sheets of dense sytrofoam is what it feels/looks like.

I believe that if you leave extra around the side, your tank will be unbalanced. It should be an exact fit.
