ratio of salt?

okay, my husband is out of town and I am going to attempt a big water change on our 300 gallon tank. I can't remember what the exact ratio is for the salt. I want to make sure before starting. I would appreciate any help! :?

1/2 cup salt per gallon of water, usually.

Make sure to run a powerhead to mix it; it's easier for a large batch. The salt needs to be completely dissolved. (In case you didn't know, my apologies if you did.)

And once you've mixed that up thoroughly, test the salinity. Then compare it to the salinity of the tank. They need to match as closely as possible. If it isn't salty enough, add another .5 cup or more, as needed. Retest after 5 minutes of mixing. If it is too salty, add more RO/DI water to water it down.

Temperature needs to be within 1 degree of the tank, if possible.

How much water are you going to change?

yay! successfully completed 90 gallon water change without any major mishaps. Hard to believe when my helpers are 2 and 4 years old! Thanks for all of the info!

Sometimes they are the best helpers. They don't have opinions on whether or not you are doing it right or not

Misty I wish you brought that up the other day, I would have been more than glad to help. I keep my specific graviity at 1.024-1.025. Do you have a refractometer? If not till you own one we could test your hydrometer against mine. That way you will know how your hydrometer is testing.
