R/O system has high TDS reading

I think my RO system is hooked up wrong. My in water is correct, going in the 1st white filter. Should my good water be coming out of the filter on top, or the sediment filter? It's coming out of the sediment filter now, that doesn't seem right.
I'm going to change all the filters to be sure that is not the problem. I think they're still OK, but close enough to changing time, so I might as well start fresh.

The water should enter the ro unit at the sediment filter, go through carbon filtration, and then come out of the ro membrane. If you have di filtration, that comes after the membrane.

Mine goes right to left threw 3 filters, then up through the RO filter on top, then back down to the DI filter on left.

I did what I should have done 1st...got on the internet & found the manual. Read instructions, being a woman, I should know this. I tell my husband this all the time! Thanks guys, you were right...Bev

I've flushed it & it's down to 97 from 266 with the lower 3 filters replaced. The membrane has only been on it about a year, but I guess I need a new one. My water out of the garage faucet is over 900. I tested my my tds meter with distilled water & it tests at 0.

I just tested a glass of water from my kitchen faucet & it's 516. Still awfully high. I must have mis-read the 5 as a 9. I didn't have my reading glasses on out in the garage when I read it before. Our water is very soft & has high PH & alk. We are in a co-op that gets the water from the lake. I water my yard with lake water, but it kills flowers & some shrubs.
I'm going to order one of Marks RO/DI units. Maybe that will give me better water. If it does then I'll know I need a new membrane for the other unit. I need a second unit for our other house anyways.

Well that's certainly a lot better! At a 98% rejection rate your RO should be spitting out around 10 tds once it has stabilized from TDS creep and the new filters. I think Marc has said that backflushing can really ruin RO membranes easily so I just let the TDS level drop on mine before running it through the DI stage.

I ran my unit over an hour & it only got down to mid 90'S. I think my membranes messed up. Could I have installed the membrane backwards? I'll look at that tomorrow. I'm frustrated enough with it for today.
