Quiet Skimmer Recommendation?

There are an amazing number of choices in skimmers out there. Since my new tank will be in the same room as our television, I am looking for a quite skimmer. The tank and possible separate refugia tank without rock, etc. has a volume of around 140 gallons.

I have been reading reviews on boards across the country and I am looking at the models listed below. Since Sicce pumps are known to be quiet and parts seems to be readily available, I am thinking skimmers with those pumps are good to consider. Any thoughts or experience you can share?

Vertex Omega 150 – heard there are some quality issues lately.
Skimz Monzter SM163 DC – low voltage DC pump good reviews but is it easy to replace pump or components?
Sea Side Aquatics CS7 Protein Skimmers – Heard they are made by the same folks that make the Bubble Magus but this line uses Sicce pumps.

Thanks!

Bob

Bought my 150 when first released works great and is way quieter then the SRO-2000 I had also works better. Looking at switching to the alpha 200

What ever you choose you can always put some filter media cloth under the pump to reduce vibration noise of the pump on the sump.

I'm glad to hear that. I have a 150 headed this way on a UPS truck. I hope to have it tomorrow. I'm replacing a Reef Octopus skimmer that I bought with my 140 gallon tank. The pump has been a PITA since I bought it.

if you can get some solid rubber you can put it directly under the pump...make sure it does not contain any thing that could leach out.
