Questions on retrofitting a fixture with LEDs

I have a 36" Current-USA Sunpod fixture w' 2x 150w HQI and 4x 39w T5HO bulbs. There are also three small panels with moonlight LEDs. The idea is to replace the very dim blue/white moonlight LEDs with something more powerful to provide the actinic lighting and discontinue the use of the T5 bulbs for that purpose.

Question 1. Is this even a good idea?

Question 2. How many LEDs would I need to roughly equal what's being put out by the 4x T5 bulbs (ATI Blue+)? I was looking at this kit from Rapid http://www.rapidled.com/18-solderless-led-dimmable-actinic-supplement-kit/.

Question 3. All blue? some white? add in a UV?

Thanks for any recommendations!

Instead of replacing the moonlights use the space where the t5s sat as the area for the leds that way they run the length of the tank and you get an even spread

I don't think you would need 54 blue leds(wattage equivalent to current t5s) to get the job done unless you like alot of blue in your viewing light.

I'm not sure how many would he sufficient tho you could always use all 54 and use an inline dimmer to control them. Or you could use those stunner strips.

You could use 3 of the pucks in place of the leds. http://www.rapidled.com/aurora-puck/

I agree with putting leds in the spot were the t5s are now. You would want to add some other color leds as well as whites to the mix.

Sent from pay phone in the airport.

I hadn't though about putting strips in place of the T5s. I like that idea as well.

Bryan, that looks awesome. Can you please PM me the info on the pucks you used?

Thanks for the input everyone!
