questions for Mili owners

Most of my sps seem to do great except for my milipora. I've tried different places for flow and lighting in the tank with no real improvement. The mili's grow but just don't have the polyp exstension I'm seeing in other tanks with healthy sps (even at night).

I have a couple areas of concern that I want to get some feedback on:

1) I use two part, no calcium reactor and no lime, so my Ph runs between 8.1 and 7.9. PH is very stable and within reef parameters but low compared to those that use a calc reactor and or lime. If you have fuzzy sps, what does your PH run and what do you dose with?

2) I don't over skim and I don't put in alot of additives - just coralvite, lugals & stronium, and all of these I probably add 1/4 - 1/2 recomended amounts. I do a 15% water change every three weeks. I also have what I would consider a medium bio load.

3) I don't feed micro food other then DT's and marinesnow twice a week. I'm thinking of starting some Pappone.

Like I said, other sps seem to be doing great and include moti caps, a couple monti digi's, and a buch of acros', like, staghorns, Pulchra, yongei, valida, Microphthalma, Tortuosa, tenuis, prostrata, birdsnest, Pocillopora and a few others.

I do have a very diverse mixed reef with softies (zoa's, mushrooms, ric's and zenia) I run carbon 24/7 and change it about every 6 weeks to help fend off chemical warefare and other polutants. I also run ozone but keep ORP around 370, mostly to knock down parasites like Ich.

feedback from those with fuzzy mili's (and others) is very much appreciated.

I'm thinking the lower ph may be a factor, but.....

thanks

Pete

My milli's in the past didn't have much polyp extension until I put them in high flow area's with lots of light. It took about a week for them to really start expanding and now they stay pretty hairy. Plus mine always seem to look "fuzzy" when the start getting larger and have more branches.

Pete,

Before I lost my pink milli, it was in high light and flow as well... I think the flow definitely stimulates them to fuzz out. My pH ran about the same as yours, still does.

I have a green milli frag in my 45G that has fuzzed out and its directly under the 250MH of that tank and moderate flow.

We have a very large green ORA colony that is near the bottom of the tank but gets excellent flow. We are using 3x400w MH and only dosing 2 part B ionic, Lugols and Pappone. Ph is in the 8-8.1 area.

It has had exceptional growth since we've gotten it. The entire colony is always fully extended with noticeable movement in the polyps from the flow. I think flow is #1 priority with these guys. I have a Chips Acro colony right next to it and it has equally fuzzy polyps that are always out as well.

I think that flow is the key when it comes to these guys polyping out fully.
