Questions about pumps.....and, well, stuff :)

First off,
Thanks to everyone for the tremendous help and advice that you have given me in these last couple of weeks. It is greatly appreciated and without you all, this tank would more than likely be sitting in my garage or on ebay. Thank you all.

Ok... here goes, just to simplifiy things, I've included details:

100 gal tank. One of Marc's model F sumps. AquaC 240 skimmer. I have a Mag12 on order because that's what AquaC recommends for this particular skimmer. My overflow seems to be a bit of an odd size but otherwise will handle about 600 GPH.

Is it not a good idea to run a Mag 9 as the return? Would it be better to run a 12 and just plumb it so that some of the water runs back to the sump or would it just be in my best interest to get a dual overflow box? I'm kind of leaning this way for simplicity when plumbing.

You only really need 3-5x the display volume running through the sump. That said, were it me, I'd probably just use the overflow you have now and get a Mag5 or Mag7. The Mag7 might be a bit too big, but you can always throttle it back with a ball valve.

If you use a larger pump merely to divert water back into the sump, you'll be pay electricity to push that much water 24 hours a day that you don't even need. So what's the point of that?

With the Mag 5 or 7, be sure to use 1" plumbing even though the threaded outlet is 1/2". You need to double the plumbing up to the bulkhead to get the most out of it.

Also, the Mag 7 pushes 700gph at 0 head. When you push it up 4', it is only moving 480gph (see the chart on this page: http://www.marinedepot.com/a_ph_danner.asp?CartId= ), and if you add a couple of elbows here and there, even less.
