Question (Coral Farmers Market)

Does anyone know about a Coral Farmers Market being held in Dallas on Nov 1st?. A group of people from the Colorado Springs Reef Club are planning on coming down to attend and I did not know anything about it.

Seriously? Who would be coordinating this and not be associated with the club? Maybe they meant Houston or Austin?

This is affiliated with Reef Farmers which is Steve Tyree. They have been doing this on the West Coast for several years now. I guess they decided to branch out.

I will be curious to see who might come as West Coast vendors.

Thanks for the tip, although its a long time from now.

Tyree ( of course )

and Jen Dub are the only West Coast vendors to sign up so far.

Tickets are $15 and are not transferable but refundable up to 30 days prior to the event.

Amazing that the club was not some how notified about this. We should definitely be part of it some how. Even if it is only in a support capacity.

We should work with them for sure. A booth is not a bad idea at all! said:

I may have missed something but who is the Dallas Fort Worth Coral Farmers Market company? Is that Steve, LFS & vendors in the area?

Don't be surprised or shocked to find out they DO know about us and either didn't want to work with us, or felt it wasn't in their interests to partner up etc. While we are a large club, we (or should I say people saying they represent us) also have turned many vendors off in the past and that kind of thing does get around.

It won't hurt to contact them, maybe they did overlook us or were not aware of us.

Anyone contacting them should make sure they approach them in a mutually beneficial manner and not like we are doing THEM a favor by getting involved.

it should only be matt contacting them and hopefully he can work things out to be good for both parties.

Exactly.....

Have to question their position that fragging wild colonies equates to coral farming

Vendor Rule 1
> Whole wild imported colonies are not to be sold within any Coral Farmers MarketSM event.

Explanation
> Cultured corals on artifical disks or constructs are considered as farmed coral and do not violate this rule. Fragments or sections of whole wild colonies do not currently violate this rule, but their presence should be registered with the Coral Farmers Market ahead of time

Frank, I think that's just a nod to the reality that you can't tell the difference between frags of a farmed coral versus wild caught.

Curious why you think that is relevant?? Care to expand?
