Question about the infamous Sherman RBTAs

Now that I'm the proud owner of a clone, just curious... Has anyone ever witnessed one of the Sherman RBTA's, er... To put it politely, release gametes? Since they're all clones, they should all be the same sex, so I'm trying to figure out if we've all got males or females...

Thanks!

OK I will post it here.

I have heard the talk about Sherman BTAs and I have seen them.

What are they? Why are they different? Is this a local legend or is there really a new mutation?

Thank you for answering the uninformed.

To add to what Matt said, beyond the fact that by using clones we're not taking form the ocean, the Sherman RBTA clones are a known quantity. They're known to thrive in most captive environments, whereas just a random RBTA from the store, who knows how well it'll do in captivity...

Except for Tranquil Scape as they have had there's in captivity for numerous years and sell clones once in a while. Their's aren't nearly as cheap as on the board though. :D

Oddly though they have the same look/coloration as the Shermans. So I guess their might be clubs around the nation who are doing the same thing this club does with this exact same RBTA type.

Well Gentlemen...
I have never seen mine release any. At the moment, I have 7 in my tank, trying to get them to grow out a little (I get pm's a lot  ). Guess it dont matter, but I still have the original "Mama" sitting pretty.

Some history, but mine originally came from Steve Wiess's tank from Oregeon? I picked it up off of RC for a pretty penny and met the lady I bought it from at the Frisco mall :p She said she'd picked it up from him not too long before I got it.

From there it slowly "morphed" into what you see now. I must say, I dont think ive ever seen any others like them.

I have heard about these guys, but have not seen any picture. Do you have any pics you can post?

Thanks,

Cool, so I guess it's safe to make the logical jump and say they're most likely female... My GBTA is female too (Going on the same logic) so I guess I won't have any Anemone breeding going on...

Khoa, here's mine - (It's the red one on the left...)

Here is a pick of one in my tank. This is the "hot pink" color that mine originally have. Pending Serks lighting, I will not be surprised to see it change.

My Sherman we got from Feasible is ***HUGE* ... it measures about 12-14" across...its foot extends a good 10-11" to the bottom of the tank, weaved through the rocks.

I hope one day (soon) it will split!

Its incredibly beautiful.

another question from the uninformed... when these things split, how big are they? feasible said his is 12-14" my GBTA is maybe 3" across when it is the most "open" if you will. since i have a nano i dont have a whole lot of room for one. would it be possible to get a very small one? or are they all big?

I was lucky enough to get a few pics of my Sherman RBTA splitting.
First pic is when it was done.
Second pic is while it was "in process".

It was NOT fun to watch. At first I thought it was sick because it looked really bad, then a hole formed where it's mouth was located. At that point I was sure it was dying. After half an hour of staring I noticed the contractions it was having. Then I realized that it was literally tearing itself into 2 parts. Every 2 minutes or so it would get a good hold with its feet and pull for 10-15 seconds. Slowly but surely it finished. I was so tempted to "help it" but I let nature take its course.

About 2 weeks later I got home after a long weekend and found 3 in the tank! :) One of the 2 had split again while we were gone. Now I have one that is about 12" and 2 about 6-8" each.

BTW - They have all healed up nicely and gotten thier colors back now. Those pics do not do them justice.

My 2 week old "babies" about 10-12 inches each.

I don't know if mine are "Shermans". I bought my original from the for sale forum several years ago. I know that my original was a multiple generation clone from the seller at that time. Mine has split a total of 5 times 4 times (including this time it split basically in half. Once it made a littile guy about the size of a silver dollar.
