Question about adding more substrate into tank

I recently purchased some brand new [ expired ] sand on here and had some questions about it.

1. What should I do with the expired sand? Should I rinse it with saltwater, RO/DI water, tap water, or not do anything period?

2. How should I add it to my existing tank without crashing or stressing other fish and sps'.

Thanks!

I guess you are talking about bagged live sand that has gone past its expiration date? I would rinse it out with ro/di water before adding to your tank. Also only add a little at a time. You do not want to add too much to an established sand bed/tank( no more than about a quarter to half and inch) or you may cause problems with the existing/established sand bed(ammonia spike due to die-off of bacteria in the established bed).

Good info here. ^

It is expired so everything will likely be dead so make sure you remember that while rinsing.
