Quarantine/Hospital tank

I am setting up a quarantine / hospital tank soon. I have no use for it right now, but want to be prepared. I also have not bought a single thing for it yet. What size is best? Can I stick with a little 5 gallon, or do I need a bit bigger? What can go in the tank as far as sand/gravel, LR. Can you keep a LR/coral tank only and use it as a quarantine tank?

OU regular tank is only a 20g, so we don't have anything really big enough at this point in time to warrant a big 2nd tank. I a year or so when we get the big tank that we want, we will most likely turn our 20 into the quarantine tank. I just wanted something small since we are in an apartment, just in case something were to happen to one of our loves. Is there anything wrong with having a very small quarantine tank, as in will it not be as effective if it is too small?

The bigger, the better, IMHO. I have a 30g hex that I use to QT rock, a 20g, and a 10g that I use as a QT / hospital.

You can pick up 20g 'kits' from petco / petland / wallyworld that include everything you'd need for a QT. If you have the extra $$, I'd pick up a hang on back filter rated for a larger tank.

The problem with having sand / LR / corals in a QT tank is that 1, if you have a sick fish, some of the medications will kill corals and LR, and 2, if you end up with something like ich, you have to leave it fallow for 6 weeks without fish.
