Qt tank - What can i keep in it?

[I want to set up a QT tank for my larger tank when i get it. This is smart to do right?? And i have a few ?'s.....

What all can I keep in it?? I want it to be on display in my living room also, so can i keep corals in it?? Or is this bad in case I get a
fish with a disease and have to dose the tank??

Can i permanently keep a fish or two, a cleanup crew, a shirmp in there??

Can I keep LR in there??

The main reason i ask is because in the event that i do get some livestock with something wrong with it, is it a bad idea??]

[I haven't read Amandas article but I'd bet it would answer your questions.

I'll give you my opinion though :D

A QT tank does not have to be setup all the time.
It should be large enough to comfortably house any of your fish.
It should be bare. Avoid any type of rock or substrate. PVC is a good 'decor'. No corals!!!
Dim lighting
Good water flow
A simple biological filter
IMO the absolute best bio filter for a tank is this
http://www.jehmco.com/PRODUCT....rs.html

They are cheap, keep a spare sponge in your sump of your main tank. When you need to use the QT tank, set it up, fill with water from the show tank, and drop in your filter with the sponge from the sump. Now replace this with a fresh new sponge in the sump, you will likley discard the old one if you medicate the tank or break the tank down. Adding it back into the main tank could introduce traces of medication or maybe even the sickness you worked hard to rid the fish of. Better safe then sorry, the whole idea behind a QT tank.

My QT is a 20L on a black all glass stand in the bedroom. It consists of a sponge filter like the one in the link, a mini jet 404, and the large duetto so I can run a little carbon later and have a small mechanical filter, as well as extra flow. A heater, and the stock 20w NO bulb in the fixture that came with the tank. I leave it setup all the time.

Minimum equipment needed IMO -

sponge filter
air pump to run it
heater
PVC
aquarium (dont need lights or a stand even, or a lid if theres no jumpers)
test kits
small power head]

[i kinda wanna keep my 29 running. I also have a 10 gallon though. THe main reason i wanted to keep a QT was to place livestock in temp after i buy it. So what if i keep it in my 29, then if i notice something wrong with it, move it into my 10. I just dont want the QT tank on display because its not as pretty. That will work right??]

[You could use one as a coral QT tank with no fish, and one as a fish QT you don't keep setup all the time. In the case of the coral QT regular rules apply but no fish. As long as you have somewhere you can move the fish to medicate if needed and theres no other fish in the tank it sounds fine.]
