qt question

Well. I am ion the bandwagon now. I have read tons of stuff online.

So, couple of questions.
1 do any of you start off with a Lower salinity?
2 do any dip the fish before putting it in the QT? If so what and how?
3. Do you start any other treatments at all once you put them in? Or just wait to see what happens en react?

1. I use water from my tank for the qt so all pareters are the same.

2. I do not dip them in anything because I treat all my incoming dish with prazipro an cupramine. sometimes others if there is a need.

3. I wait until the fish start to eat before treating unless their condition dictates an immediate start. I do not use the wait and see method because fish can harbor parasites even though they do not show symptoms. These parasites could endanger other more delicate species already in the dt if they are not dealt with.

Ok. Let me add these are incoming fish. Not ones coming from the DT.

So, on incoming, please explain a little more on what you do.

That is my method for incoming fish. I treat all incoming fish before they are ever released to the dt.

i do hypo @ 1.009 for 6 weeks with new incoming. no dipping. i do feed de-parasite powder for the first couple days. i just raise the salinity up to the DT salinity slowly (3-4 days) after the 6 weeks and then bring 'em on over to DT. i think it is recommended to keep them at DT salinity levels for a week or two after in the QT, but i haven't had any trouble with it.

So do you start at that low or bring it down? I had read somewhere they just start that low and bring it up. Just want to clarify.

I get all my fish from someone who already has their fish at 1.009.

'Technically', you are supposed to slowly decrease the salinity from whatever it is (i.e. 1.025) down to 1.009 over a couple/few days... however, I know plenty of people that just drip acclimate them over an hour or two to get them down to 1.009.

The important part is slowly raising it.
