QO 4000 vs Mag 9.5

No comparison. The Mag blows it away. If a Mag 9.5 moves 950 gph than QO has there pumps grossly overrated. The QO would be lucky to be moving 700 gph. I bought 2 4000 to replace a Mag 7 and a Mag 9.5 to hopefully lower electricty costs and heat at the same time. I am very disappointed in the QO pumps. :x

Odd as I replaced all my mag7's with QO 3000's and my mag9.5's with QO 4000's and would never go back.

Dave - What kind of head pressure are you putting on the pump? In my experiences, the QO's are great for low-pressure high flow applications, but if higher pressure is required, then the Mag will stand up better...

(I've used both, and have standardized on Quiet One 4000's for all returns on my current system)

I read somewhere that QO were not rated for saltwater, but I see a lot of people use them in SW setups. So was what I read wrong? U can use QO in SW setups?

I've been using Quiet One pumps in my saltwater tanks for 10 years now (If you include the old external only Quiet One), and been using the current style of QO pumps since they first came out...

Per the spec sheet PDF from the manufacturer's site:

http://www.lifegardaquatics.com/pdfs/q1aquariumDS.pdf

"Safe for salt or fresh water use."

The head on my display might be 4' at the most 5'. I put the other 4000 on my skimmer and it would barely operate it. I did take the one off my skimmer and put in my salt mixing tank and it was alot cooler, but just watching it operate in 5 gals of water it is night and day between the 2. With the mag you see alot of turbulance and with the QO not near as much. So yes the QO runs cooler than the mag but it doesnt move near the same amount of water. I will put my mag seven in the same bucket as it seems to have the same amount of flow and see if it warms the water at all.
