Pumps gph ?

[I got a Aqua Medic 1000 Protein Skimmer with out a pump. Aqua Medic website recommends I use a Rio 2100 powerhead with the Protein Skimmer that pushes an average of 692 GPH. If my tank overflow can only average of 300 GPH. What average GHP do I need for a return pump?Is the rio powerhead going to overpower my system? Do I have to change my overflow?]

[You are going to run the skimmer in your sump right? If that is the case, it doesn't matter what the flow is going to your display. I wouldn't use a Rio, but any other pump with the same GPH would be fine.

A Mag 5 at 4' head pressure will pump 300gph at best, using 1" plumbing. That will work with your overflow box.]
