Pump too strong for my overflow - Improving drain rate ideas needed

[Remember the pump in this picture (Copied from quangtam7)?

I got mine on Dec 4, too busy to setup until now.

This is rated about 1500 GPH, twice the rate of Mag 7.

My tank:
3/4" return line
1" drain line, setup with Durso standpipe

Problem: Drain is NOT fast enough for the pump return. Currently I can only open the ball valve about 2/3 so that the pump won't suck dry my sump area.

Question: What is the best way to plumb this tank so that I can open the val fully, without drilling another drain hole?

Comments on pump:

So far, so good. Relatively quiet. Looks cheap, feel cheap. I already cracked the return pipe just by screwing in standard 3/4" threaded pipe.

Thanks,]

[Your draining bulkhead is 1", but if you could install a 1.5" durso you might be able to increase the volume draining. The bulkhead will bottleneck the flow, but I think it will work.]

[If you are just wanting to run your pump full out you could divert some flow back into your sump (with a *T* on the return) and then you could run the pump full out. But that doesnt increase your drainage from the tank to the sump, just cylces sump water back to the sump, but should save some wear on the pump.]

[Switching to 1 1/2" pipe works beautifully. I had to cut off part of the elbow to fit the whole thing in the overflow area.

Thanks for the suggestion. The flow is great.

Now I gotta deal with the micro bubbles.

Pump to bulk head is all glued in. Threading on bulk head gets teflon tape on. Sump has 2 baffles, and there is at least 6" of water from the pump intake.

One elbow on top of the tank is exposed to air, perhaps this is where the air get drawn in.]
