pump life in Kalkwasser?

Hi All,

I was thinking of adding some Kalkwasser to my topoff reservoir. Is it okay to put a topoff pump (for example, osmolator or aqualifter) in such a basic environment for extended periods of time or am I asking for the pump to have a real short lifespan...?

It won't shorten the lifespan as long as you keep it clean. You will have to clean it often. Say you clean a normal powerhead in the tank every 3 months you'll have to clean the one in kalk every few weeks but as long as you do that you'll be fine.

It doesn't hurt peristalic pumps at all since the kalk has no contact with the pump. Of course you have to clean the tubing once in awhile I guess. The end of my LiterMeter tubing clogs up with kalk eventually. I think peristalic pumps are the way to go with kalk, but that's just my opinion.
