Pulverized Limestone

Just thought I would let ya'll know the HD on Garland Rd and Jupiter has 1/2 pallet of the 'Pavestone' brand pulverized limestone in the garden department. I know a few people have been looking for it. I had to go to three Home Depot's and one Lowe's to find it. 50lbs $4.84, I bought five bags for myself 250lbs for less than $25.00 can't beat it.

let me give you a quick tip to clean them up.. they're a pain in the ass to clean and it litterally took me a whole day and it still left me with massive cloud of dust.

So I tried it again with my new found method and seems to work very very well.

Get a window screen from home depot, the finer the better...I used 3 layers and stack them together..

Place the screens on a 2 large rubbermaid containers with the bottom part cut out and sandwich the screens together with the the side walls of the containers stack together.

Pour about a pound at a time under running water. You can do more it all depends on how large the cut out rubbermaid containers are..

it usually takes me about 10-20 seconds per load..

Once you're done....place the sands on an empty tank with 2 powerheads pointing down towards the sand and HOB filter (I used emperor 400 with water polishing screen media, they're about 2.50 at petsmart for 5 feet by 1.5 feet area)

Leave them overnight and I guarantee you'll have a clean sand and you can stir them up and it will not leave a massive cloud of dust. The dust will settle very quickly just like buying a aragonite or southdown sand.

I don't have it in my tank, but I have it in my fuge. I wish I would have used it in my tank also. Alot cheaper thatn buying the caribsea stuff. And it dosent look bad. I didnt rinse mine at all. It was cloudy for a day or two but then it was fine. I can drag my hand on it and not cloud my tank at all. I really like having all the different size particles in it.

Thanks for the tip Stan, wasn't sure how I was going to clean the stuff, thought about just placing it in the tank, coverung it with plastic and pouring the water on top. This method works pretty good with minimal clouds of dust...At lest with aragonite sand that is. :D Gotta love those plastic aquariums (rubbermaid containers), I have about 30 pounds of live rock in one right now.

Give this thread a perusal, it has pics in it and tons of discussion on the Pavestone:

I have been to 3 Homey Depots in the past 2 days and I still can't find what everyone is describing. I have found Pavestone Play Sand (kinda like regular old mason's sand, orangey-pink), Pavestone Decomposed Granite (dark brown and kinda nasty looking) and something called Pavestone Paver Sand Step 2 (kinda brownish gray and varies in grain size from beach sand to small red bean) Is the stuff I am looking for actually called Pavestone Pulverized Limestone? I asked the people who work there and they look at you like you've got a horn growing out of your forehead. Anyone got any ideas where to look? Sorry for the epistle....

It's usually in the garden section, the section that's covered since the bag is paper. I have even seen some near the mulch in a few places.
The one at 15th and Central just got a new pallet in last week, it's back by the mulch there at the end of the second or third isle.

Cheers!

The one in Richardson has some. I ment to get up there this weekend but didn't.

15th and Central in Plano still has some, just stopped by on my way home. Looking from front left of garden center, it on second isle from the left all the way in the back.

Cheers!

When I was looking for it I had three workers tell me they don't carry it. I went wandering around and found two full pallets of it in the back of the garden section.

I would just go on a treasure hunt. I have looked at every Home Depot I have been to since and I have found it in almost every one.
Good Luck.

Yes, they told me the same thing; said they didn't carry it, but of course they did. I must admit I started to rinse it but got lazy, dampened it and poured 100lbs in the tank and filled it up with RO saltwater. The tank cleared in about 2 days after running a HOB filter with charcoal, then I laid 20 lbs of live sand on top (rough mix w/lots of shells etc). Placed about 50 lbs of nice live rock and it looks great.

The Home Depot on 75 across from Collin Creek Mall in Plano had 1/2 pallet today at 4 PM. It is in the garden section, outside, under cover. It is closer to the edging/trellis/wheelbarrows than it is to the other pavestones and mulches.

Picked up 5 bags yesterday. :) This stuff is ridiculous to clean.... I threw together a little frame with an old shirt stapled across it. Didn't work as well as I had planned. The shirt sags too much, all of the "sand" settles in the middle of the sag. I need to hit HD or Lowes to pick up some screen.
