Problems with remora pro skimmer

I have a remora pro skimmer with a mag 3 running it. For the first month I didn't get much of anything happening but all the sudden it started skimming very well for about two weeks. Then the trouble started, it starts skimming so wet that it dumps 4 gallons in a matter of an hour or so. I have tried raising and lowering the collection cup but that hasn't helped. I have a hose going from the collection cup to a 4 gallon water jug under the tank so I am not actually dumping on the floor just forcing water changes. Any advice?

Have you started adding any type of supplement or additive to your tank that corresponds to the timeframe that this started. Also....are you using the remora on a 125G tank, if no additives or such not sure why it would be doing this, usually these skimmers have issues with the injector clogging and not skimming well. Is it possible that the injector is loose, missing or damaged in some way, did this start after cleaning out the injector??

Cheers,

The skimmer is on a 47 gallon tall tank. There are a couple corals and three urchins so I don't really add much. I use a bit of fuel and the basics but I don't think there is any connection. Could it be possible that I need to clean the injector? I haven't done that since I got the skimmer.

Only time I've seen the remora overfill is in reaction to something that I added to the tank.:D The injector can get clogged, but that usually result's in reduced skimming.....however anything is possible. You can try cleaning the skimmer as well as the injector to see if it help's. With the cup removed, when you look in do you see bubbles(foam) or just a clear water spray from the injector....may be hard to see that tho'.

The higher you raise the cup, the less skimmate it should collect. The lower it is, the more watery it will be.

I saw that comment, but it seems like the clarification was still necessary. Sometimes we make a change and expect an immediate result, but with skimmers it can take time to settle down.

My own skimmer sure seems to change when the barometric pressure in the area takes a big dive. On those days, I have to really resist the urge to change the gate valve on it, or I'll come back to an overflowing skimmer later that day/night.

When it overflowed the first time it was about 3/4 of the way up so I raised it all the way to the top and it did it again. That is when I decided something may be wrong. I will be pulling the skimmer tonight and cleaning and checking everything. I will let you know how that goes.
