Preventing light shock

I have 2 175 watt mh 14k single ends. Upgrading to 3 175 watt 14k double ends. How do i go about this without putting corals through light shock? All softies and a few lps. 250 gallon deep tank. Should i start the new lighting at half photoperiod? And increase an hour a week? Should i raise fixture some and gradually lower it? Any help and suggestions would be so grateful.

Yep anytime you use new bulbs you need to shorten the light period as all new bulbs have a burn in time

I do understand that but to what? Not only are they new, changing from single ends to double ends. Double ends are stronger and penetrate water better. And going to three bulbs. Do i cut photoperiod in half, or to 3 hours a day adding an hour a week. I am not sure where to start.

From my reading, a 175 watt hqi bulb is equal to 250 watt single end. Double ends have far better par. One downfall of these bulbs is that you must have uv shield on fixture. I think i have figured it out. Hang fixture about 2 feet about tank and lower it a couple inches every 3-4 days till it is at desire level.

Mount light where you want it and start with 3 hours a day and add 30 minutes every 3-4 days.

I was asking along similar lines so... you can also add a few layers of screen 3-4, and remove 1 layer a week. I was asking in regards to what type of screen. Apparently regular door screen.
