predicament ideas

Our 180 has to be taken down to repair the floor. I am asking for suggestions on how best to do it. It will probably take a couple of days to repair so we have to be able to store the corals, rock and fish. Also do we leave the sand in the tank? Can the tank just be slide across the floor in waiting and how best can we move it. Do we save the water as it needs a water change anyway. Need some help figuring the logistics out. Thanks

If the flooring is as bad as you've indicated, it may be difficult to slide it at all.

If you have a lot of buckets, you can scoop out the sand, take them outside and rinse them clean of all the years of detritus that has collected within. Now the tank is empty, so you can move it off the stand, clean it up nicely, move the stand and get the floor fixed. Then reassemble it later.

I really do not want to completely recycle the tank again. The floor looks fine it is just sinking. What kind of holding tanks. This is just a nightmare.

Large rubbermaid containers, or even the watering troughs they sell at Tractor supply should do the trick. Just need to rinse em and make sure they are clean. Storage totes, etc work as well. Based on the size of your tank though, probably best to find someone who is willing to let you borrow a very large rubbermaid container and then try to get your filtration hooked up and going as well.

If you cant get it to slide, then please do clean the sand after removing it.

And, several days of the sand just sitting in a thin layer of stagnant water is probably going to cause some sort of cycle anyways.

Dont know about those but when I took down my 200 gallon, I used 4 of the large rubbermaid bins for all the liverock, fish and corals. I put up my MH lights over them and used Koralias in each bin. They did great for a couple weeks then one of the four fouled. Not sure why, but lost most of the corals -- I move the fish before they were affected. The others were fine. I did not setup my sump (as Marc did) since I wasnt expected it to last very long (it ended up taking me about a month though). Save some sand to reseed with and some (but not all the water - act like it is a major water change).

There is a debate about keeping the sand. I got all new sand and just seeded it with my old sand. Didnt have a hard cycle on the new tank.

Slide the tank with sand (or anything in it) is just not a good idea (I dont think). The tank could leak as you refill it -- due to stressing the seams.

I have a 100g rubbermaid trough you can borrow if you wish. It's a drive though.
