Powerheads

Sorry, another newbie question to follow. :D

So far, I just have two brand new Maxi-Jet 1200's for my 55 gallon tank. The powerheads came with all kinds of attachments. When I see pictures of other people's tanks, I don't see air inlet tubes attached or the flow deflectors that come with the Maxi-Jets. Is this because they've been modified for a wavemaker?

Should I set my powerheads up like the directions indicate with the the extra stuff attached (even though they are unsightly) and then modify them later if/when I get a wavemaker?

Thanks!

Deanne

You don't want to hook up the air inlet because it will fill you tank full of bubbles (I think that option is used on fresh water tanks). The flow director you can use if you want because it will allow you to create a wider flow.

Some people cut the nozzle off with a hacksaw because it suppost to give a more variety in flow patterns. Here is a link: http://www.dfwmas.org/Forums/viewtopic.php?t=12997

Is this only for use with a wavemaker? Or can you do this if you don't have one yet?

Mine is running without a wavemaker. No complaints.
