PowerHead

Should I go with a powerhead (the stupid looking thing that suction cups to the inside of your tank) or the water pump under the tank. I dont think I am real crazy about drilling holes in the back of my 55 gal tank atm. Is the waterpump overkill for something as small as mine? I dont really have room under the stand for a refugium either. Shoot me some opinions, i eventually want to do the full blown reef thing.

You can make powerheads work just fine especially in a tank that size. It is mostly in the eye of the beholder some people (ike me) just don't like the look of powerheads in the tank and there is also the argument of the heat transfer they have. If you are just "getting you feet wet" you may want to stick with the PHs for now and they plan out a tank that you can drill and have a sump/refugium under. IMHO

Sounds like a plan. So what size powerhead do I need for a 55 gal? I kinda like the look of the Hydor Koralia Pumps.

It really depends on what you plan to keep. Some things require a lot of flow where others don't require much. If you plan to keep coral the be sure to place them according to their flow and lighting requirements. I know that doesn't really answer your question but there are so many variables. If you are going to do fish only you could just do a couple of maxi jet 1200 and put a hydor flo on them. They rotate. It is a rather inexpensive way to vary the water movement.
