Powercompacts and other dribble..

ok so i have been out of the reef keeping for about 6yrs... (could not get wife to let me put tank in house after we moved.)

so now i have it in my office. (9x10) with everything else..... :)

anyway... i have several 4tube powercompact 28w (if i remember correctly) are these things a thing of the past or can i get new bulbs to fit in them... ???
they where retrofit kits..w 4 term square fittings...

have some new vho's that where boxed and did not get broke.. belief it or not.... and my icecap fired them right up...

28w I'm not too familiar with, the most common sizes are 55w and 96w. 28w may be a standard size for a smaller bulb, I'm just not familiar with it.

Yes many people still use PC's as thier main lights and they are still pretty good lights, the only thing new in the last 6 years I can think of would be T5's - and I'm not even sure they are THAT new.

I would not waste the money on replacing those PC's. They total only 100 watts, and if you find the bulbs they won't be cheap. Hold that thought

14$ each plus shipping. 4 would cost you 56$ and for 112 watts of light.

ok i pulled a bulb tonight when i got back from Phoenix and it is a 27w from customsealife, inc... with a search comes up with OUT OF BUSINESS.. bummer... but here is a pic if someone runs across some... i like them... concentrated light....

Try contacting the gang at www.hellolights.com to see if they can find you the matching bulbs, if that is what you want to use over the new tank.

Or perhaps tell us the size of the tank, and the livestock you want to keep. We may have an alternative option for you to consider.

thanks
but i can figure ...
had a good tank once upon a time...

just got to figure out where and what and how much... so my wife does not dump bleach in tank for me...

you might also want to look at the maximum power that the ballasts for the 27W PC's can handle. it's very possible that you can go with a slightly higher power bulb (maybe like a 32W) where the bulbs are still redily available..... Just a thought
