power head troubles

Last night I noticed decreased movement in my tank. I removed a JB power head that was no longer working. The magnet/propeller assembly is frozen. The power head is less than 5 months old and was fine 2 weeks ago when I changed it. What would cause my power head to totally lock up?

Deb, it may just need to be cleaned.. I'm not familiar with that brand, but you should be able to take the impeller cover off, remove the impeller, and soak all of the pieces in vinegar. Then scrub them all down carefully, rinse well, and reassemble.
 
Impossible to clean. It is totally stuck. I tried prying, turning, anything and everything until I broke off a piece of the impeller. No more noise when I plug it in either. I may have the name wrong, but close…
 
Probably gunk build-up. Ah well.. I clean mine about once every 4-6 months, that seems to keep them running smoothly.
