Powder Blue Tang/ Kicked the bucket after 3 weeks

I bought a Powder Blue Tang a little over three weeks ago and out of the blue (no pun intended) he was dead a couple of days ago. I have a Yellow Tang that is the same size but didn't see any aggression towards him during that time. The Powder Blue was doing fine one day and then dead the next. I do remember seeing the color of his blue turn like chamoflauge to a blue and white striped appearance several days ago, then change back. A last night look through the tank, and it appeared that his eyes were glossy. I am sure that was the beginning of the end, but attributed it to the darkness of the tank. Last night I my saddleback clown started to get the same glossy look and am afraid he may have the same issue. Any tips on what may be happening?

My water parameters measured the day of his death all looked in line. I had done a 20% water change a week and a half ago.

Sorry to hear about your PBT. I was planning on getting one myself. Ima tag along to see what everyone has to say...

Any chance something got into the tank from the air, like aresole? Or maybe you had something on your hands and stuck them into the tank?

Not that I know of. All water parameters tested fine. I've been reading about popeye and think that might be what it is, but why is it spreading to my other fish?

I still am not sure what is going on with my tank. All of my fish are either dead and/or dying. They start to get tail and fin rot, then eyes get hazy, then they stop eating, then you know what. I am going to do another 20 gallon water change today. I beleive the last couple of fish are doomed nevertheless. As long as my corals aren't affected, I will be able to manage. If they die, I may be leaving the hobby out of frustration. My only thought is that my last water change done prior to my first fish getting Ich/Popeye/tailrot might have something to do with the issue. The water was in my garage where it is a bit cooler than the rest of my house. I hope the temperature change didn't set this series of events off.

I'm not sure what size tank you have but if your keeping a PBT it's probally a pretty good sized tank. 20gallons just doesn't seem like enough water change to get the pollutants out if there was any. I would recommend doing a 50% WC wait 3 or 4 days and do another 50% WC.

Hopefully all goes well. Good Luck!

Dilution is the Soultion to the poultion get the bad water out 50 to 60%
There is this stuff by tropical science that is reef safe and totally organic that handles enternal and external parasites, its also aids in there slime coat. get that stuff or something close to it and add a half dose to your tank after you do a water change. Then in a couple of days do another water change and put in some carbon to help get out some of those impurities, after a few more days add some more of the medicine a little more that half does and you should start having some more positve results.

Good luck

My tank is 75 gallons with a 25 gallon fuge. I did a 25 gallon water change last night and will see how the tank looks later today. All of the fish seem to have the same issue now. Hoping that they will make it through the next couple of days.
