Positioning Zoas

FOr about a month now i've had 2 clumps of zoas (which used to be 1 clump, but it broke, which is good) sitting in the sand. I've been wanting to glue them to the rock, but the area I originally intended to put them is being advanced upon by small Star Polyps. I worry that if I put them there, they'd be overun.
One thought is to break up a clump into very small frags, and glue them to the back wall of the aquarium (a JBJ 24gal). All of the other places they could go would place some of the zoas facing away from the light (as theys clumps are litterally each about 3/4 the size of a fist, dmoe shaped). I'd rather have each polyp able to get light for the full day, where as other palces would only allow the downward facing polyps to get sunlight (rather than tank light) in the mornings (until winter).

I wish I had a camera, so I could post a pic of teh tank (despite the algea problem...)
