Poor man's macro

[This is an old technic, since many digtal cameras don't have macro capability, this is best way to shoot macro with pictures that are comparable to macro zoom lens. All you need is an old 50mm that does not have to be in working condition as long as you can see through it, a coupling ring that match both camera lens and 50mm filter sizes

Attach 50mm lens in reverse to camera lens by using coupling ring

Remember, you have to get real close to the subject (few inches) in order for the camera to focus, most cameras will not let you shoot if the subject is not in focus.

Longer the zoom, less vignette on the picture.
You can you 28mm or 35mm lens, but 50mm is probably better and much cheaper.
Check out "Finger-Like Hydroid" (Thanks to buyitjody) in the other thread that I shot with 50mm+50mm reverse lens.
So enjoy and good luck.]

[Very cool suggestion.

I used to use my camera in reverse to act like a make-shift binocular when I was more poor than I am now. :lookaround:]

[BTW, 50mm lens in reverse will give ~25x magnification, that is equivalent to 6 4x closeup lenses stack together but far superior in quality and cost around $20 or less.]
