Pom Pom Xenia grows fast?? How?

mine grew like crazy under pc's and t5. my tank params were trates 0 trites 0 phos 0 calc ~325 alk 7.

When I upgraded skimmers the growth slowed a little, but not alot. Maybe it had something to do about amount of dissolved organics in the water?
 
i cant keep any alive in my tank for some reason too... but hte gonoporia which is supposed to be very difficult to keep alive is growing like a monster.
 
Xenia is just a coral where you either can keep it alive, or you can't. It,s not because there is something wrong with the tan. It grows like crazy in my 12g nano. I'm about to sell some more, so let me know if your intrested, $5 a frag. I sold some to my LFS, and they couldn't keep it alive for 2days, but everything else in the tanks looked great.
 
I think it might have something to do with magnesium levels. Ive noticed acouple of times when Mag. levels got high, my Xenia started to melt away. My .02 :shock:
 
i used to dose iodine but stopped because I didn't have a test kit and didnt know whether the levels ok or not. salinity? 1.025--mag? i don't know. Well recently I banished all my xenia to the sump for a couple of incidents with them and the new SPS that I'm trying. Seems like the cheaper corals always beat out the weeny more expensive kind. Anyway I have PC lights 2x55w in the sump and the pom poms are still doing fine once they got used to the lower intensity of the PC's
 
I have been thro numerous Pom Pom Xenia's. I put some in the front of my tank and on the sides even in the back. They just would not grow but the last batch I got from fellow reefer fish2tomorrow I put in my rocks with little flow and they are growing wild. I hope this might you help.

I bought two frags and they are doing great... High up in the tank with dual 96W PC. Right in the middle of my return flow and a powerhead. So they get a good swaying action...

I only add alk buffer and calcium to my tank.
Maybe once a month I add essential elements.
My cal is around 350-400 alk around 2-3, always on the low side.

I have it the low flow, higher flow makes them shrivel up.

Low light, thin stalks, high light, thicker stalks.

It's growing like crazy on the back of my tank and the front unfortuately.
