So,

Plumbing in chiller.

Tee it off the main return pump ?

Provide seperate pump to feed it ?

Could a Maxijet be used (300gph) just to move water thru the chiller ?

I just don't wanna have to have another pump hooked up, and another power cord, and another thing to fail, maintain, or suck up power.

I put a T off the main return pump. Went with a bigger pump to run the tank and chiller both. I also used a ball valve off the T to limit the flow to the chiller.

Depends on the size of the chiller. I have a 1/3 that the company suggests that no more than 800 gph be pumped through it. I plan on using a separate pump from the return through the chiller then into the tank...just my plans...

Any issue with plumbing the chiller into the Skimmer and running off the same pump ?

Sump----> Mag-7 - Chiller ---> Skimmer---->outlet

My concern with that would be whether or not the pump is large enough to run you skimmer efficiently after being teed. I would think that if you got a pump that is a little larger than what is recommended for your skimmer then you would not lose any performance by after the tee. My other issue with that would be that you are taking drain water running it through the chiller and putting back into the tank. I realize that no where near all the water goes through the skimmer so this may just be me being wierd...

just my thoughts...

Well I wouldn't Tee it since it's in-line in series.

E.g. one complete run in series with the sump at the beginning of the chain, and the skimmer at the end.

Accommodating for the loss in the chiller, I could bump my pump up to a mag-9 from a mag 7 and still get under 800gph thru the chiller, and an adequate flow thru the skimmer.

Any thoughts ?

I tried it with the Mag-7 and no dice.

The flow thru the chiller gets reduced heavily from the Mag-7.

I plan to use just a regular old Mag-5 dedicated to the chiller.

I am going to give it a shot...I am using a Dolphin AmpMaster 3000GPH pump T'd and valved with one leg going into an ETSS 800 skimmer then into Delta Star 1/3hp Chiller then into an Aqua 57w UV. The other side of the T is return to the tank.

Go with what the manufacturer reccomends i think they want 20 gallons per minute flow is the max and 10 being the minimum.. second i would use seperate pumps. what happens if your pump fails you could in theory freeze the water and bust open your chiller

Agreed but VERY unlikely if the chiller has a built-in thermostat.
