Plumbing double overflow box

I have finally finished my Stockman topoff system and am ready to re-plumb my double overflow box. 8) I currently just have a 1" hose on each connection running to the refugium. I would like to combine these hoses in some type of T connection to be able to have a single hose running into the refugium. This will save some room and allow me to work on the refugium much easier. I would also like to run a second hose off of the overlow box that would be removable to do water changes. I will have to have some type of valve to shut off water to sump and have water diverted to sink for water changes. Any ideas on what you have done would be appreciated.

What is the point of combining two drains into one, other than saving space? I'm sure it is possible, but how large is the plumbing you have now? And what water is draining into the skimmer section of your sump, if you have both drains going into the refugium?

I don't believe your water change idea will do much, unless you plan to just pour a bunch of new water in the sump and just toss out whatever drains out of your overflow. I prefer not to go that route because I want to remove old water rather than a mixed version of new and old water exiting simultaneously.

In your water change process, do you plan on removing any detrius? If you just drain water from the overflow you will not remove any detrius builtup on the bottom of the tank. What method would you use to remove detrius in your new water change plan?

by the way Marc I would actually prefer to have you build a weir box capable of keeping up with a mag 9.5 return with a 3' rise. Let me know if you build these or just sumps/refugiums.

To clarify:
I only have a refugium and not a sump.

I don't make weir boxes, period. Just the one, years ago. For one to be able to keep up with a Mag 9.5, you'd simply need a larger bulkhead or two 1" bulkheads (1200gph). The 3/4" by 8" gap would easily provide enough water over the back of the tank.

OK, I need to keep the 2 1" drains out of the dual overflow to the refugium. It is probably best to keep doing water changes utilizing the detrius removal method by vacumning the bottom and use the 35 gallons salt water container to just fill up tank back up to a point that I begin draining into the overflow again. This way I would get the best detrius removal and still just turn a valve, hang hose in tank, and then fill up. Thanks for clearing up.
