please help...

Will regular table salt raise my salinity? I was moving my aquarium and lost a lot of the water and now my salinity is way to low. Don't think my fish will make it through the night. Please help what can I do?

NO! Absolutely don't put table salt in there!!! That will more than likely nuke your tank (Iodine addition like that, not to mention table salt is just funky)!!

Just wait until morning and go to the petstore and make some new water. If you post your location maybe a night owl will be able to rescue you tonight even w/ some salt.

Is this a fish only system, how big??...Your fish will not die at that level so you do have time. You will have to slowly bring the salinity back up if you get salt tonight, I would not change it more that .003ppm. Just losing water would not alter the salinity??????

Cheers,

it is a reef tank but i used more fresh water that i had for future top offs not thinking that i was out of salt so i added about 20 or more gallons of freshwater. has been a long day of moving and wasnt thinking i guess....

Oh..that's too low for a reef. Could already be a shock to the corals, maybe the bio-filter. Bring it back up really slow, I would start asap. Sorry to hear this, I feel for ya bro, looks like no sleep for you tonight. I would get some water/salt on-hand in case of a mini cycle kicking off.

Cheers,

*edit* my two fingers type really slow

So you are mixing up water and don't have enough salt to raise the level in the mixing container? Do you have any tank water left so that you could move livestock into smaller vessels for the night? Think about how fish stores receive corals and fish. If you had to bag them up for a few hours, they'd be okay provided you had some normal reef-salinity saltwater.
