please help me decide on new light

I want to buy a new light for my tank. The two I like are the Kessil 350 (I think I need 2, my tank is 36"x18") or the Maxspect Razor 1600. Not sure if the 20.5" razor is big enough or if I need the larger 27" one. Please share your experience & knowledge with me, good or bad.

Get the 27" razor. It's an awesome light. Great bang for your buck light and it looks great too. I have two over my 6ft tank

A lot of people like razor on that size tank. Can't go wrong with it. Controllable and covers the area well with a single fixture.

I went with a diy reef cnc 18x6 fixture on my 36x18x18 tank.

What kind of corals do you plan on putting in the tank. What is your max budget? Are these the only lights you are considering now?

If you go kessil do you have a apex or controller that can dim the the leds

What type of corals you wanting to keep?

I like softy's, some lps. Love rics. I like interesting mushrooms, zoas, palys have a couple monti's
Dave...will a 20.5 razor be to small for my 18"x36" tank?
I do have a controller on this tank, but haven't learned to use it, I'm tech stupid.

I would look at razors or reef radiance or reef breeders leds.

Razors have just blue and whites. Reef radiance and reef breeders have more of a full spectrum leds.

Kessils I would use if you had more sps personally seems like overkill unless you go used route in acquiring a set

David...that's probably the best way to go, but I need plug & play my tech & construction kills are non existent!

I just have mine on timers. Actinics on then add another strip and then the third. They don't ramp up from 1% working up to 100% like some controlled lights. BML does have a dimmer but I don't use it. When the strips are on they are 100%.

reefbreeders value fixtures, I have 2 now over my SPS packed 58. One would grow anything I wanted and they produce just as much light or more than the rest.

I have one of the Evergrow 120 watt full spectrum LEDs on my 40 breeder. Got it on eBay for $130 shipped. Love it.

Radions do, they are what I chose http://www.reefaddicts.com/entry.php/29058-Making-the-jump-to-LEDs

You could get away with a single fixture and wide angle lenses on that size of a tank.

AI Hydra and Hydra 52 fixtures do as well and have violet and UV. I think it was asked earlier but what is your budget range? That may help you narrow down your choices.

ETA: AI Vega also has red and green but no violet or UV or diffuser lens. They can, however be customized with whatever color pucks you want and a few are popping up used too so you could save a bit with a used fixture.
